Toolinium's Image to Text Converter uses Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to pull readable text out of a photo, screenshot, or scanned document — directly inside your browser. It supports both English and Urdu, so you can extract Roman text, Urdu script, or a mix of both. All the actual image processing happens on your own device; the only thing loaded from the internet is the open-source OCR engine itself (the same way this page loads its icons), not your image.
Yes. Toolinium's Image to Text Converter is 100% free with no registration required.
No. Local OCR runs inside your browser. If you explicitly enable High Accuracy OCR, the selected image is sent to OCR.space for processing.
Local OCR needs no API. High Accuracy OCR is an optional OCR.space Engine 3 mode and requires your own API key; it is only used when you enable it.
Try these in order: (1) switch "Image Enhancement" between its four modes — "High-Contrast B&W" usually works best on a clean, well-lit photo of printed text, while "None" can help on images that are already sharp and high-contrast; (2) change "Scan Mode" to "Single Line" if your image is just one line of text, or "Auto Layout Detection" if it has mixed content; (3) make sure the source image itself is sharp and at least a few hundred pixels wide for the text — a blurry or very small source can't be recovered by preprocessing. If it's still wrong after trying these, the font style in your image is likely a hard case for this OCR engine (see the question about Urdu support above).
Yes. Select Urdu or "English + Urdu" before extracting to recognize Urdu script. Accuracy is genuinely best on simple, clear, geometric-style Urdu print (Naskh-style fonts). Stylized calligraphic Nastaliq fonts — common in Urdu newspapers and posters — are a known hard case for OCR in general, including this tool, and may produce incorrect words. Auto-enhance (on by default) helps, but very decorative fonts remain a real limitation.
OCR accuracy depends on image quality, font style and layout. Toolinium now uses multi-pass preprocessing and compares several OCR layouts before choosing a result. Clear, high-resolution Urdu is strongly recommended; Nastaliq calligraphy, handwriting and severe blur can still be difficult for browser-based OCR.
Yes, the tool is fully responsive and works on phones and tablets, including photos taken directly with your camera.
